Its hurricane season again and many of us in Florida are glued to the weather channel, getting a little bit more stressed with every new storm announcement. We are watching to see which storm is headed our way now, and when and how likely is it to change course or build momentum. Are we in danger, are our loved ones? Will we face the Houston Texas flooding devastation of Hurricane Harvey, or Puerto Rico’s decimation and isolation of Hurricane Irma? What’s the latest on Hurricane Nate? Time tells.

In the meantime, the professionals who are poised and ready to respond are waiting in the wings, but lets not forget, their waiting is not “down time.” While waiting for the next big one, firefighters, police, emt’s, search & rescue, air patrols are CONSTANTLY working to tend to smaller disasters,  daily devastations and tragedies that they know they are uniquely qualified to tend to.  Similarly, trained volunteer teams at the Salvation Army, Red Cross, Catholic Charities and the like are in the trenches daily working to provide timely relief for people and communities in crisis.

But who tends to them?
